Macaw is a great open source sequencer that has a powerful synthesizer that admits a great variety of plugins, MIDI devices and VST plugins.

  The program is in a rather mature development phase and works very well to compose live music directly and to play samples.

  It has all that can be asked for of a professional synthesizer, from instruments, sample and sound editors to a sequencer that controls the tracks and the clips to create songs.

  The program is full of small details that make it big, like the presence of an icon that shows us the use of the CPU so that we can make sure that the computer doesn't block when we are playing music live, something that is very difficult to accomplish due to the low amount of resources that this program has.

  What is really astonishing is the amount of VST plugins and sampler and instrument benches that this program supports. The tracks can be exported to the most used audio formats, even in compressed formats and, of course, those that are most used in the extensive open source community.
